Natural History Museum of Nantes

The Natural History Museum of Nantes is a French natural history museum located in the city of Nantes. The Museum was born in the early nineteenth century. The museum opened in 1875, designed by architect Gustave Bourgerel. The Museum of Nantes is one of the very first in France. There is a large room on two levels, preceded by a vestibule. 

The museum is regularly asked to perform scientific missions on the ground, whether appraisals of collections, actions related to the protection of nature and opportunities for collecting specimens.

The canal from Nantes to Brest, France

The « canal de Nantes à Brest »

The Canal de Nantes à Brest is a long canal with small sizes which connects the cities of Nantes and Brest. The canal is 364 km long. Eight streams called « Rigole Alimentaire » or « Petit canal » are channeled to feed him, becoming the ramifications of a rather surprising Breton navigable network. The canal is composed of 238”écluses” which boats take to move forward. You can walk, ride your bike, ride your horse along the canal or you can have a boat cruise on the canal.

                  

The construction of the canal began in 1811, but the works really began in 1824 after the exile of Napoléon, The works were difficult and ended in 1842 with the construction of 237 “écluses”. The arrival of the railroad and cars after the First World War made the canal less used. In 1923 the construction of the read block of Gueledan finished the era of the sea transport between Nantes and Brest.

            

Today, the horses of towing have left place to fishermen, walkers and sportspeople. The canal does not open its locks any more except for the amateurs of canoes or kayaks, the sailors on barges, sailboats or motorized boats, the industrial and commercial tool having changed into tourist axis.

The seafarer Carousel in Nantes, France

THE CAROUSEL

Located on the banks of the Loire, opposite the Jules Verne Museum, the seafarer world Carrousel appears out of the belly of the ile de Nantes, in the maritime area of the town.

The Carrousel is in Nantes on the “Machine island”. It's a giant carousel of 25 meters height.

There are 35 elements and 85 spots, the theme of the Carrousel is the marine world. The Carrousel has three floors for everybody to have access. The sculptures are very

beautiful and precise.

INTERESTING SIGHTS IN TÄBY

 

If you visit Täby you can come to our shopping mall.  It’s a huge mall in the middle of Täby. In the mall you can find many different kinds of stores for alla kinds of shopping. There is something here for everyone. We also have ‘’Rönningeby’’ which is a place in nature where kids and teenagers can learn about animal life and farming. You can also visit a famous Viking bridge named “Jarlabankes bro”. Jarlabankes bro is a place where the Vikings raised rune stones. If you´re interested in betting on horses, there is a place called “Täby gallop”, where you can enjoy horseback riding competitions.
